Many and various measures have been taken by the government of Rajoy‘s PP against the citizens of the state, contrary to what we considered the welfare state and democratic society: the LOMCE and the scholarship policy by Wert; the labor reform and the looting of pension funds by Bañez; the Gag law, the repression on demonstrations and the illegal and anti-humanitarian activities on the border of Ceuta and Melilla by Fernández Díaz; the abortion law and the law of judicial rates by Gallardón; health disaster, including privatizations, by Mato; continued mockery of the state budgets by Montoro; the calamity of the Spanish diplomacy and the clumsiness of the Spanish consulates by García Margallo; and the whip for agriculture, fishing and the environment by Cañete. But if there is an unfortunate minister in his administration, quite adverse for the future of the state’s citizens, devastating the environment, awkward for the economic future of our tourism and our fishing, catastrophic in his management of electricity and gas for Spanish households, this is Jose Manuel Soria, who is exploiting the death throes of a sinister government to blatantly favour energy oligarchy, with cases such as compensation of Castor shelf, or authorizations to conduct oil exploration in Cantabria, the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.
At present, there are unquestionably a few serious changes in atmospheric dynamics provoked by global warming caused by emissions of greenhouse gases which have reached their historical peak. The presence -proved by the scientists- of more than 400 parts per million CO2 in the air and other contaminants undergoing a process hitherto of unstoppable rise in the average temperature of the atmosphere. It’s more than proven scientifically that a large part of this is due to air pollution emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels. The European Commission has recently presented the White Paper on the proposed objectives of the European Union to reduce emissions by 2030 at the seriousness of the situation which might even be irreversible.
You cannot consider authorizations by Soria and Rajoy go in line with the objectives of reducing emissions in the European Union. It is obvious that whoever is looking for oil or gas it intends to use it, thus increasing emissions that European institutions have considered harmful to the environment, the economy and health of people.
The population of the Canary Islands, of Valencia, the Balearic Islands and Catalonia do not want more air pollution or the threat of tar on our coast. And, unfortunately, we remember the position of the PP when it was in opposition to the PSOE government, when they were strongly against these authorizations. Now we see their interested lies, their bare cynicism and the cheat of their approaches.
Lots of clean renewable energy in the Spanish coast and in our islands, such as offshore wind, solar or tidal are expecting a coherent and sustainable policy of the Government of Spain in energy to combat the more than evident climate change meanwhile our coasts would have to suffer the severe impact of the search for oil by multinationals.
Soria and Rajoy, as responsible for this pernicious, harmful and unhealthy policy against humanity in general and Spanish in particular, should resign. They are a bad toxic gas that we are suffering. European institutions should intervene to prevent this attack to the environment and should control emissions of greenhouse gases by the Spanish state.
